Wrong Rights
I note that the Law Society appears to support the suggestion that all solicitors be granted higher rights of audience (see [2007] Gazette, 19 April, 3).
Were such a remarkable notion ever to become the reality, then perhaps all those solicitors who had then been personally awarded higher rights of audience might be allowed to retain the designation 'solicitor-advocate.'
It would after all be only fair that the effort, expertise and experience that went in to the grant of their award continue to be recognised and not sacrificed in the name of a dangerous and wholly unnecessary dumbing-down exercise.
