Another tale of a first day in the law. Simon Musson of Leicestershire remembers being dispatched by the senior partner to effect a completion at another firm in relation to a straightforward conveyancing transaction. ‘I was given a list of the deeds to collect, instructed how to date the conveyance and a banker’s draft for the appropriate purchase price. The vendor’s solicitor welcomed me to the profession and gave me a cup of tea as we sat in front of his open burning coal fire. Following completion and back at the offices I presented the senior partner with the title deeds, the dated conveyance and (to his surprise) the bankers draft!’
