Inspiration can be found anywhere, at least that’s what Obiter has been told, and the fashion world’s latest offering has turned to the legal sector.

Designer Yuhan Wang launched her Fall 2024 (do not panic reader, Obiter is not adopting Americanism’s but merely attempting to blend in to the fashion industry) with a collection inspired by our own former president of the Supreme Court, Baroness Brenda Hale.

According to Vogue, Wang also acknowledged US Supreme Court justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Having seen the collection, Obiter is not entirely sure we will be seeing solicitors and barristers forgoing their suits and dresses for Wang’s offerings - which is a shame, really. Beautiful as many of the pieces may be, most do not quite meet the court dress code.

The standout for Obiter goes to look 31, the dogtooth monochrome coat, useful in courtrooms that have not quite mastered heating. Saying that, advertiser’s dream that we are, Obiter will now be looking out for some lace pieces – maybe a lace collar – to join the court wardrobe.

A cross between Elle Woods’ use of colour (pictured below), Atticus Finch’s sharp tailoring, and this high fashion offering will be the look Obiter will be trying to pull off this season.
