What portends the arrival of lazy summer days and daze better than the dull thwack of leather on willow? Soon it will be time to dig out those battered old pads from the loft for another cricket season. If it ever stops raining.

Meteorological optimist Rob Henderson gets in touch to plug the Law Society Cricket Club. His team certainly gets about, having toured Sri Lanka last year (though with only modest success).

‘We like to think that the fact that we were only victorious in one match was more down to our British good manners and empathy towards our hosts, rather than lack of skill,’ says Rob.

This year’s domestic fixture list will see the team play 14 matches against ‘nice people in nice places’, including Maidenhead & Bray CC and even a Captain Scott XI at Fenners (‘I’m going out to bat, I may be some time’).

For information on fixtures see lawsociety.play-cricket.com. To get involved email Rob at rob@astuteservices.com. At present the team is all-male, but it’s included women players before and would welcome them again, says Rob.
