Labour MP Jess Phillips was disappointed to discover that life as a lawyer bears little resemblance to glossy US legal dramas such as Suits (pictured) and The Good Fight.

Phillips told the Legal Aid Practitioners Group conference that she submitted evidence to Gina Miller’s High Court prorogation challenge based on what parliament’s suspension meant for the Domestic Abuse Bill.

‘In my head, I was going to wear an amazing shift dress, wearing Manolo Blahnik heels,’ confided Phillips at the thought of going to court. What Phillips did not picture was driving to her mother-in-law’s in the middle of the night in her pyjamas, to print documents.

Let’s hope Suits hasn’t inspired anyone to become a paralegal in the hope of bagging a prince.
