Nothing gets the delegates at the International Bar Association going like a celebrity appearance.

Memorably, back in 2022, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson had them queuing out of the doors as she made a surprise visit to Miami.

This year’s stardust was brought by Olympic diving legend Tom Daley, who was down to be the keynote speaker in Toronto at a session to discuss LGBTQIA+ equality. Alas, those hoping for a selfie with him were disappointed as Daley appeared through a video link.

Daley spoke eloquently and passionately about how the law and lawyers can lead the fight to push back against a rollback of LGBTQIA+ rights.

For British audience members, it was the first sighting of Daley since he was ‘murdered’ in the early stages of this year’s Celebrity Traitors, which has its final this week.

He looked well considering, although Daley omitted to mention the series during his talk. Fortunately the IBA was more compassionate than the traitors, letting him survive his latest ordeal to the end.
