‘Will the real magistrate please step forward?’ asks TV broadcaster and radio presenter Remel London at the start of an advertisement designed to encourage listeners across Capital Xtra, Radio X, Heart and LBC to consider becoming a magistrate.

London and co-presenter Will Njobvu have to investigate who the magistrate is among a group of six everyday people.

All six are interrogated. One is deemed too young. Another is complimented on their ‘magistrate jumper’. One suspect, who doesn’t have a legal background, is asked what punishment they would give to someone caught drink driving (they would take away their licence).

Do Remel and Will guess correctly? All is revealed – but we won’t spoil the ending for you.

The Ministry of Justice said the advertisement was part of a paid partnership, one strand of its £1m recruitment campaign to attract people from a wide range of backgrounds. No doubt it will be pleased with viewing figures - the five-minute clip has been watched nearly 400,000 times.
