National firm Pinsent Masons appoints 18 to the partnership, the first promotions since its merger in December 2004: in London, David Barker, Natasha Doman and Bridget Fleetwood (outsourcing, technology and commercial), Liz Johnson and Alexis Roberts (insurance and reinsurance), Adrian Elliott (international construction and energy), George Lubega (dispute resolution and litigation), Andrew Normington (project finance), and Anne-Marie Winton (pensions); in Leeds, Andrew Black (corporate), Fran Button (UK construction and engineering) and James Crookes (property); and in Birmingham, Alice Broadfield (banking and finance), Richard Ford (property), Kultar Khangura (property) and John Tyerman (corporate). In Manchester, Hannah Kendrick is promoted in the corporate team. Bernard Ang is appointed partner in the Hong Kong-based international construction and energy team. The firm has 260 partners worldwide.


City firm Charles Russell promotes eight to the partnership, bringing the total to 95. Six are in the corporate and commercial department: Alexander Keepin, Andrew Clason, Vincenzo Lanni, Adrian Mayer, Jason Saiban and Amanda Solomon. Also promoted are Michael Bradshaw (employment and pensions) and Richard Collins (family).


Two are promoted to the partnership at City firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain: Oliver Bray (branding and advertising) and James Mee (international and domestic mergers and acquisitions). It now has 63 partners.


The London office of Penningtons takes on corporate and commercial partner Gerard Cranley from the City arm of US firm Weil Gotshal & Manges.


Mary Sutton leaves Bolt Burdon in London to head the employment team at Davies Lavery in the capital.


Simon Hobbs is promoted to partner in the commercial dispute resolution practice at Uxbridge firm Iliffes Booth Bennett.


Ian Sankey is promoted to partner in the litigation team at the Yeovil office of Somerset and Dorset firm Porter Dodson.


In Cornwall, Torquay’s Boyce Hatton promotes two to the partnership: head of probate Maxine Barnes and matrimonial specialist Selina Childs. It now has nine partners.


Up to Birmingham, where Robin Koolhoven joins Putsmans as a partner to head a new insolvency and business recovery department from Wright Hassall in Leamington Spa. He brings assistant solicitor Sam Payne with him.


In Manchester, Roddy Macleod leaves James Chapman & Co for the defendant personal injury practice at Weightmans.


Private finance initiative specialist Neil Wilson moves to Manchester’s Halliwells from Robert Muckle in Newcastle, where he was head of construction.


In York, Ann Laverty joins Denison Till’s commercial property team as a partner from Philip Ashworth & Co, where she was head of commercial property.

Paul Dufays leaves City firm Herbert Smith to join the London office of US firm LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae as a corporate and projects associate.


Two new assistants for Howard Kennedy in London, both from City firms: Emma Talty joins from Travers Smith (commercial property) and Scott Goldstein from Taylor Wessing (litigation).


Yvonne Spencer, former deputy director of the Children’s Legal Centre at Essex University, joins Fisher Jones Greenwood in Colchester as an assistant and solicitor-advocate.


Jimmy Ogunshakin joins Newsome Vaughan in Coventry as an associate and head of employment from Eschol Consulting in Birmingham.


Personal injury specialist Danielle Black is promoted to associate at Merseyside firm Lees Lloyd Whitley.


Manchester-based James Chapman & Co hires assistant solicitor Carol Couse to its commercial team from sports firm Couchman Harrington in London.


Julian Watson leaves national firm Hammonds for the insolvency and business team at Putsmans in Birmingham, which he joins as an associate.


Up to York, where three assistant solicitors move to Denison Till: Sue Hadfield joins the construction team after a career break, Josh Wong joins the dispute resolution practice from City firm Herbert Smith, and Greg Preston joins the commercial property department from Eversheds in Leeds.
