The most high-profile move this week sees David Page, former head of corporate at Clyde & Co, join City firm Ashurst.

John Ahern joins the non-contentious financial services practice at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary from Merrill Lynch Europe where he was senior counsel in London.


Meanwhile, Emma Menzies moves from DLA Piper to join the finance and projects practice at Taylor Wessing.


One of Richards Butler’s six promotions is in London: Simon Hart in the commercial disputes group. The other five are based in Hong Kong and bring the total number of partners at the firm worldwide to 104.


Oliver Emanuel joins Eversheds’ real estate practice as a partner from Clifford Chance, where he was a senior associate.


Anthony Lee and Eddie Powell join the IP, technology and outsourcing practice at Fladgate Fielder; both move from McGrigors, where they were directors.


Reid Minty promotes three commercial litigators: Kristian Grice, Yuri Botiuk and, straight from his training contract, 28-year-old Piers Rake. It now has ten partners.


To the midlands, where Kate Shepherd joins Leicester firm Bridle Hathaway White to head its employment department; she moves from Derby firm Flint Bishop & Barnett.


Birmingham firm Anthony Collins promotes three: public law specialist Alan Bean, housing lawyer Jonathan Cox, and commercial property specialist Ruth Grinbergs. It now has 20 partners.


Kate Hindmarch joins the Lincoln office of Langleys to head the employment department from local firm Sills & Betteridge.


In the north, Helen Brown joins Altrincham firm Myers Lister Price to head the commercial litigation and dispute resolution department; she moves from Cobbetts’ Manchester office, where she was a partner.


Ricksons promotes Leisa Fearon in the insurance litigation department at its Manchester office.


Newcastle firm Robert Muckle promotes commercial property specialist Ava Madon.






New firm


Michael Butler, a solicitor-advocate and former consultant at Nunn Rickard in Exeter, and James Elliott, previously a partner at Stones in Taunton, have launched Butler & Co. The new Taunton-based firm will specialise in mental health, family and criminal law.

Halliwells promotes insolvency specialist Michael Mulligan to associate in its London office.


Conveyancing assistant Trenham Weatherhead moves to niche entertainment firm Jayes & Page from west London firm Nicholas Morris.


Licensing specialist Deborah McCallum joins Steeles as an assistant from Joelson Wilson & Co.


Coninghams in Richmond, Surrey, promotes litigator Shemin Shariff to associate.


On the south coast, Lee Young joins the private client team at the Lymington office of Moore & Blatch from Cripps Harries Hall in Tunbridge Wells.


Corporate recovery and personal insolvency associate Jan Murdoch joins the Southampton office of Warnergoodman Commercial from local firm Paris Smith & Randall.


Three assistants join the insurance practice at the Southampton office of Lamport Bassitt: Bernard Calland from Moore & Blatch, Matt Grant from Freehills in Sydney and James Hammond from Capital Law in Southampton.


In the midlands, Gateley Wareing promotes three to associate: Norah Durrant in the employment team and Philip Round in the corporate team at the Birmingham office, and Collin Gittus in the Leicester property team.


Moving north, assistant Melanie Dirom joins the housing and litigation department at Liverpool firm Bremners from the local office of Berrymans Lace Mawer.


Personal injury specialist David Dow joins Alexanders in Wetherby; he was formerly a lecturer at the College of Law in York.


Lee Stephens joins Hull firm Andrew M Jackson as an employment assistant from Kuit Steinart Levy in Manchester.


Ricksons promotes licensing specialist Dawn Leake and commercial litigator Lee Norman to associate in the firm’s Manchester office, while Joanne Wordsworth joins the Leeds office as a commercial property assistant after qualifying with Ingrams in York.
