Denton Wilde Sapte has recruited Ingrid Silver to its technology, media and telecoms department as a partner from Taylor Wessing, where she was an associate.


Marshall Leopold joins the London office of US firm Steptoe & Johnson from Olswang in Reading, where he was a partner and head of corporate.


Essex firm Birkett Long promotes Claire Read to partner in the probate, wills and trusts team.


David Bickford joins the Basingstoke office of Penningtons to head the employment practice. He moves from Goodman Derrick in London.


Neil White joins the property and development team of Bournemouth firm Rawlins Davy from local firm Matthew & Matthew.


In Birmingham, Challinors promotes three to partner: family specialists Alan Carneiro and Tania Derrett-Smith, and Nicholas Tubb in the clinical negligence department.


Commercial property specialist Rob Hayes moves to Leeds firm Schofield Sweeney from Addleshaw Goddard.


Parveen Lateef joins the family department of Manchester firm JMW from local firm Shammah Nicholls.


Oldham firm Gruber Garratt promotes criminal specialist Deborah Cartledge to partner.




Management


Clifford Chance has elected Jeremy Sandelson as its London managing partner. Currently London head of litigation, he will take over from Peter Charlton next year. Mr Charlton was recently voted global head of corporate.




Associates/Assistants


Two senior associates join the reinsurance and international risk team at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert in the City: Leigh Williams moves from Slaughter and May and Tim Kenefick from 7 King’s Bench Walk. Both are barristers who will be requalifying as solicitors in the near future.


Employment assistant Joanna Bragg joins Webster Dixon from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary.


Assistant Shara Gallagher joins the private client department at the St Albans office of Taylor Walton from City firm Speechly Bircham.


Jason Smith joins the residential conveyancing team at Rawlins Davy on qualification with the Bournemouth firm.


Six are promoted to associate partners at South Wales firm Leo Abse & Cohen: Sian Elvis, head of company and commercial, Julia Reynolds in the personal injury team, and Paul Rosser, Simon Rosser and Sue Edwards in the trade union services department. Sarah Forster joins as associate partner to head the commercial employment department from Bond Pearce in Bristol.


To the midlands, where Tim Coplestone joins Eversheds’ Birmingham office as a real estate associate from Wragge & Co.


Company and commercial specialist Stuart McIntosh joins Stratford-upon-Avon firm Woolley & Co from local firm Silks.


Shazia Khan Hussain joins CMHT’s civil and commercial litigation department in Walsall from Romford firm Liddell & Co.


Three assistants for Sheffield firm Taylor & Emmet: Shazia Rehmani joins the employment team after working in the London and Bristol offices of Lyons Davidson, while Paul Fouad and Nichola Barnes join the private client litigation and probate teams respectively after qualifying with the firm.


Christian Hunt moves to the Leeds office of McCormicks as a corporate finance associate from Lupton Fawcett.


Five assistants join Ricksons on qualification at the firm: in Preston, Victoria Bromiley and Anna Woods join the corporate and commercial property departments respectively; in Manchester, Laura Whillans joins the employment and corporate team, Chris Gee the commercial litigation team, and Kristian Garner the general liability team. Employment associate Fiona Miller also joins the Manchester office, after two years in the US.


Catherine Fosbrook joins Manchester firm Rowe Cohen as a commercial property assistant after qualifying at Pinsent Masons.



BAR AND BENCH


Barristers Heather Swin-dells QC and Andrew Plunkett are appointed circuit judges on the midland circuit, while Geoffrey Marson QC is appointed on the north-eastern circuit.


Barrister Emma Arbuthnot is appointed a district judge (magistrates’ courts) in the Greater London commission area.
