New jobs for the new year, starting in the City.


Herbert Smith hires three partners in its finance division: Chris Fanner and Ian Yeo move from Denton Wilde Sapte, and Andrew Newbery moves from Norton Rose. Kyriakos Fountoukakos also joins the EU and competition practice; he was formerly a European Commission official with the competition directorate’s merger task force.


John Allison joins Addleshaw Goddard’s City corporate practice from Bird & Bird.


Bird & Bird meanwhile recruits Alistair Crellin to expand its corporate team; he moves from the City office of national firm Pinsent Masons.


Roger Clarke rejoins Trowers & Hamlins in the banking and finance team from Clyde & Co.


Ian Mason, head of the wholesale group in the Financial Services Authority’s enforcement division, joins Barlow Lyde & Gilbert’s financial services regulatory team.


Michael Sinha joins the commercial property department at Cumberland Ellis from Beachcroft Wansbroughs.


Litigation firm Stewarts has recruited family specialist Stephen Foster from Lester Aldridge in Bournemouth to launch its divorce department.


Construction and project law specialist Lisa Calderwood moves to Winward Fearon from Lovells.


Mariel Monk joins Stringer Saul’s commercial litigation team from KSB Law.


Brighton-based DMH Stallard has five new partners: James Colvin (commercial litigation), Sarah Birkbeck (innovation and media) and Jenny Thorp (employment) are promoted, while Melanie Carter joins from Bindman & Partners to head a new public law team, and Stephen Clow joins the commercial and banking team from Campbell Hooper.


Adrian Owen leaves the Treasury Solicitor’s Department to join the restructuring team at the Southampton office of Bond Pearce.


Also in Southampton, Clarke Willmott recruits three from Coffin Mew & Clover’s social housing team: Robert Wassall and Nikki Lynds-Xavier join as partners and Sarah Deighton joins as senior associate.
