Partners


One of the highest-profile moves this week sees John Pheasant move from City firm Lovells to become co-chairman of the EU competition practice at US firm Hogan & Hartson.


Mr Pheasant previously headed Lovells’ competition, EU and trade practice and is a former managing partner of its Brussels office. He will divide his time between Hogan & Hartson’s London and Brussels offices.


Taylor Wessing’s London office has a new addition following the appointment of real estate specialist Brian Greenwood, who previously headed the environmental and planning law group at Norton Rose. He is a former chairman of the Law Society’s planning and environmental law committee.


The London office of US/UK firm Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw has appointed real estate finance partner Stephen Bower to its London finance group; he moves from national firm Addleshaw Goddard.


Sean Geraghty has been promoted to partner in the corporate and securities group in the London office of US firm Dechert.


Craig Rattray, formerly a partner at UK/US firm DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, has joined the London office of Addleshaw Goddard as a partner in its technology and outsourcing practice.


Kennedys has bolstered its construction department with the hire of Jonathan Raynes; he moves from Ashurst.


Seddons promotes Tessa Naylor in the property department to partner.


London technology firm Kemp Little has promoted two partners to equity; corporate group head Siobhan McElhinney and Calum Murray, who heads the commercial technology practice.


John Baldry moves from Weil Gotshal & Manges to join US rival Kirkland & Ellis’s London office as a tax partner.


Adela Williams has been elected partner at US firm Arnold & Porter’s London office. Dr Williams specialises in pharmaceutical and medical technology law.


David Tiplady moves from Kendall Freeman to join Beachcroft Wansbroughs’ insurance and reinsurance team.


Niche employment firm Doyle Clayton has promoted Jennifer Nicol to partner in its London office.


US giant Shearman & Stirling has new London partners following two promotions. They are Patrick Clancy, who specialises in derivatives, and mergers and acquisitions expert George Karafotias. Matthew Readings also joins the firm’s London office from Lovells, bringing the London partnership numbers up to 26; he specialises in EU and UK anti-trust law.


City firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain has a new professional indemnity partner after recruiting Dominic Dennis-Browne from Hextalls.


Meadows Mason in Weybridge, Surrey, has promoted Christian Abletshauser to partner in its litigation department.


Company and commercial specialist Dawn Shadwell has been promoted to partner at Horsham firm Paul Davidson Taylor.


Mark James has been promoted to employment and commercial partner at Griffith Smith’s Brighton office.


Adrian White, formerly at Kingsley Napley in the City, has joined the commercial property team at Henmans in Oxford.


Bury St Edmunds firm Greene & Greene has promoted Simon Ratcliffe to partner in its commercial law department.


Ashwin Mody moves to Spearing Waite in Leicester as a partner in the firm’s litigation and insolvency department from the local arm of Howes Percival.


Birmingham firm Putsmans has two new partners following the arrival of David Birchall in its private client department – he joins from Martineau Johnson – and corporate and commercial specialist Matthew Sutton, who arrives from Alstom Transport, where he was an in-house lawyer.


Ian Fitzpatrick joins Manchester firm Turner Parkinson’s litigation team as a partner; he moves from Lopian Wagner. He will head the department, taking over from Malcolm Hunnisett, who will stay on as a consultant in the firm.


Manchester firm Kuit Steinart Levy has recruited Tony Hardy as partner to head its residential conveyancing team. He moves from Sedgwick Phelan & Partners.


Merseyside-based firm Lees Lloyd Whitley has promoted Joanne Taylor to partner; she also heads the employment department.


Eversheds has recruited Deborah Powell to boost the real estate department in its Leeds office; she moves from Gordons.


Angela Moores joins Ricksons in Leeds from Gordons as partner to spearhead development of the firm’s family law team.


Dr John McMullen has joined Watson Burton to head its employment department in Leeds and Newcastle; he moves from Pinsent Masons.


Newcastle firm Sintons has six new partners following a raft of promotions. They are: Lucy Winskell and Sarah Smith (licensing); Mark Dobbin (commercial property); Catherine Wood and Sheila Watson (employment law and commercial litigation); and Kathryn Riddell (personal injury).


Carlisle firm Burnetts has announced a quartet of promotions. William Green, head of the firm’s agricultural department, becomes a partner along with employment solicitor Joanne Stronach. Clinical negligence specialist Victoria Watson and litigation solicitor Alex McKnight are also upgraded to associates.




Associates/Assistants


City-based niche insurance firm Fishburns has recruited five solicitors from rival insurance leader Weightmans: John Bennett, Sophia Kashmiri, Katie Graham, Kiley Rogers and Alexandra Goddard all join the ranks.


Also in London, Campbell Hooper has four new solicitors in its property department. Caroline Bailey moves from an in-house role at housebuilders Persimmon, Gemma Garner has moved from Norton Rose, Craig Wallace moves from ASB Law, and Christian Le Gourais is set to move from Howard Kennedy in March.


David Hunt has joined Giambrone & Law in London as an associate in the firm’s litigation department; he was formerly a sole practitioner.


Gary Score has joined the residential property department in Hart Brown’s Godalming office; he moves from Countrywide Property Lawyers.


Crawley firm Rawlison Butler has several new assistant solicitors; Sally Dickinson joins the employment team in the Gatwick office from Hewitsons, while Richard James joins the corporate department from Surrey firm Mundays. In the Horsham office Simon Keeler joins the residential conveyancing team from Kent firm Girlings, and Michael Denmead joins the commercial property team from regional firm Larcomes.


Andrea Mathias has joined Southampton firm Moore & Blatch’s commercial property team, moving from Glanvilles in Fareham.


Corporate tax specialist Katie Dieleman joins Bristol-based Burges Salmon as a solicitor, moving from her previous role at City firm Bird & Bird.


Karen Beynon joins Wards’ Portishead branch as a solicitor in its wills, trusts and probate department. She moves from McCarthy & White in Thornbury.


Commercial specialist Paul Gordon moves from Scottish firm McClure Naismith to join Gloucestershire firm Willans.


John Morgan joins Worcester firm MFG as a corporate solicitor in its Halesowen branch; he moves from Laytons in Bristol.


Company and commercial solicitor Adrian Chaffey joins Ashton Graham’s Bury St Edmunds business law unit from Mills & Reeve in Cambridge.


Norwich firm Howes Percival has four new lawyers in its commercial litigation team. Alison Kirby moves from Fosters, where she headed the commercial department, to take up an associate position, and is joined by three former London-based solicitors: Ian Rees moves from Travers Smith, while Merley Okine arrives from Hamlins and Julia Gardiner moves from Guy Clapham & Co.


Moving north, barrister and commercial specialist Alison Miller-Varey joins Brabners Chaffe Street in Liverpool from Atlantic Chambers.


Tim Saunders joins national firm Keoghs in Bolton from Walker Morris in Leeds; he will boost the corporate and commercial team as a senior solicitor.


Lancashire firm Scott Rees has two new personal injury solicitors; Daniel Klein arrives from Parry & Co Solicitors, while Catherine Lloyd-Jones makes the move from Bolton firm Pattersons.


Leeds firm Fox Hayes has three new solicitors: Katie Lewis (conve-yancing), Stacey Churchward and Elizabeth Swann (both commercial) have all taken up the role of solicitor following the completion of their training with the firm.




Consultants


London firm Aitken Associates has three new consultants after it incorporated Wilkinson Pope; Sarah Pope, Jonathan Wilkinson and Sue Dalal have all joined up, with Kelly Wild joining as a solicitor. They are all family and children law specialists.


Marian Dixon is now a consultant at Leamington Spa-based Ollerenshaw following her move from City firm Lovells, where she was head of immigration.

Barrister Andrew Collender QC is appointed a circuit judge on the south-eastern region.


Libel specialist Lorna Skinner has joined Matrix Chambers; she moves from 1 Brick Court.
