Company and commercial specialist Matthew Vance is promoted to associate in Clarkslegal’s Reading office, where Joseph Preisner joins the commercial property team after qualifying with the firm. Rebecca Thurlow joins the London office’s commercial property team from Russell-Cooke.



Philip Hill joins the mental health team at Hatten Wyatt in Gravesend, Kent, from London firm Kaim Todner.



In Norwich, Matthew Bowden joins Kester Cunningham John’s dispute resolution team from Steeles.



Andrew Niblock joins Tollers in Milton Keynes from the local office of Borneos as a senior associate in the business corporate team.



Criminal law specialist Katrina Byrne leaves Stephen Burdon in Nottingham to join Stones in Exeter.



To Wales, where Capital Law has hired four for its Cardiff office. Associate Philip Winterborne joins from Osborne Clarke in Bristol to head its corporate recovery and insolvency team, while assistant Hannah Davies joins the commercial litigation team from Gorvins in Manchester. The employment team has recruited associate Jon Stanley from Eversheds’ Cardiff office and assistant Iestyn Morris from Bond Pearce in Plymouth.



West Midlands firm Blakemores promotes two to associate in its Birmingham office: Davinder Heaven in the family law department, and Darryl Thomas in the employment team.



East Midlands firm Roythornes has hired six. In Nottingham, Gill Stevenson joins the litigation team from Nelsons, while Caroline Pearson, previously at Clarkslegal in Reading, bolsters the commercial property department. Zahir Mohammed leaves Metcalfe Copeman & Pettefar in Wisbech for the litigation team in the Spalding office, the same department that Emily Barker joins on qualification with the firm. In Newmarket, dispute resolution solicitor Adrian Newborough joins the property team from Nuneaton firm Cocks Lloyd, where he was a partner, and Rachel McKillop strengthens the agricultural law team, moving from Greene & Greene in Bury St Edmunds.



Howes Percival bolsters the employment team at its Leicester office by hiring Wayne Smith from Hammonds in Leeds. Michael Briggs will also join the team after completing his training with the firm.



Charlotte Crampton joins Nottingham-based Actons’ employment team after qualifying with the firm.

Julia Runnacles moves to Hasbro Europe as vice-president (European legal) from Kimberly-Clark Europe, where she was a senior international attorney.



Mark Biddle joins Aegis, the media communications and market research group, as general counsel. He was previously general counsel at RAC.



Spectrum Syndicate Management appoints Mark Everest as chief legal counsel; he was previously a senior associate at City firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.



Consultant



McCool Patterson Hemsi hires personal injury specialist Paul Harrington as a consultant to run its new office in Newmarket. He moves from Lorimer Longhurst & Lees in Cambridge.

Barrister Nigel Teare QC is appointed a High Court judge.

Solicitor Michael Hughes and barrister John Plumstead are appointed circuit judges, assigned to the south-eastern circuit.
