Partners
The annual promotion round is in full swing.
Trowers & Hamlins brings its total number of partners to 107 after making 15 promotions. In the City, they are James Johnson and James Lyons (corporate), Christopher Paul and Jessica Taylor (projects and construction), Eileen Bruce (commercial property), Andrew Barnard (housing projects), Robert Beiley (public sector housing) and Robert Horne (dispute resolution). Andrew Greaves becomes a partner in projects and construction in the Manchester office, while Georgina Savill is promoted in the housing projects team in Exeter. Rupert Copeman-Hill (corporate, Abu Dhabi), Henry Cort (project finance, Dubai), Abdul-Haq Mohammed (commercial property and Islamic finance, Bahrain), Charles Schofield (corporate, Oman) and Tim Armsby (commercial, Cairo) are promoted at the firm’s Middle East offices.
Seven are promoted at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert. In London, they are David Abbott, Fergal Cathie, James Cooper, James Roberts and Leigh Williams – all work in commercial litigation and insurance. Peter Coles (aerospace) and Richard Keady (commercial litigation) become partners at the firm’s Hong Kong office. It now has 82 partners.
National firm Hammonds promotes 11. Tim Hewens and Andrew Whalley in corporate and Janette Lucas and Alison Treliving in employment are promoted in London. In Leeds, the new partners are Steven Bate (construction), Andrew Sprake (property), Alex Newman (intellectual property and IT) and Nick Watson (corporate). Julian Scott is promoted in the Manchester construction team. Michael Schneider (intellectual property) and Michael Hoffman (corporate) are made up in Munich. This brings the firm’s partnership count to 158.
Hill Dickinson promotes ten across the firm, taking its partnership total to 153. Phil Emery, Andrew Evans (both insurance), Alan Pugh (construction) and Fionnuala Kenny (private client) are Liverpool-based. In London, marine specialists Kate Ayres, Panos Pourgourides, Alan Speed and Electra Panayotopoulos are also promoted. Maria Moisidou and Andrew Dyer become partners in the marine team at the firm’s Piraeus office in Greece.
Cheltenham and Cotswolds law firm Rickerbys promotes Jonathan Morley in its corporate and commercial team.
Lincoln firm Andrew & Co promotes Annette Wood in its employment and dispute resolution team.
Nottingham-based Rothera Dowson promotes Lorna Sear in the family department.
New Firm
Dr Victoria Handley has left Beachcroft’s Manchester office to join Laurence Brown, former head of defendant operations at Silverbeck Rymer, in setting up Preston-based specialist insurance practice Handley Brown.
Associates/Assistants
South-west firm Foot Anstey promotes three to associate: Holly Cudbill (employment), Simon Musannif (child care) and Zoe Porter (matrimonial finance and divorce).
Joshy Thomas moves to Thomas Eggar from national firm Eversheds as an assistant solicitor in its litigation department. He will be based in the Chichester and Gatwick offices.
Charlotte Anns joins the conveyancing team at Gardner Leader’s Thatcham office, while Julie Taylor joins its commercial team in Newbury. Both have just completed their training contracts with the firm.
Rothera Dowson in Nottingham promotes Amy Rothera to associate in the private client department.
Dual-qualified solicitor and Spanish lawyer Antonio Guillen moves to the Manchester office of DWF from the Max Gold Partnership in Yorkshire. He joins as an associate and will launch a new service helping investors buy property in Spain.
Ruth Whittingham rejoins Farleys as an associate to launch a family law service in Manchester. She spent the last two years at local firm Green & Co.
Colin Wolfe joins the commercial property team at Fox Hayes in Leeds as an assistant solicitor after successfully completing his training.

Private client litigation specialist Henry Frydenson leaves Baker & McKenzie to join London firm Mishcon de Reya as a consultant to its contentious trust and probate practice.
