Long-standing Wigan firms Alker & Ball and Healds Solicitors are to merge to create a seven-partner firm ABH Law, offering commercial, personal injury, conveyancing, employment, wills and probate, and family services.
Merger would create a business with a staff of more than 500.
Legal sector turnover fell as expected in August - but was well ahead of the previous year.
Solicitor-general Alex Chalk QC MP says he thought about the idea last year.
