It was bad enough when legal aid was given for all sorts of ridiculous claims - legal aid committees dominated by solicitors who were happy to encourage litigation, armed with favourable advice from barristers looking forward to a brief. A legal aid certificate was a handy weapon, not least because the defendant would not be able to recover his costs. With legal aid/ public funding cutbacks, we now have ridiculous cases brought by LiPs. All a bit tough for the poor old defendant, who has to spend time and money defending such nonsense without any prospect of recovering his expense.

Apologies for my cynicism, but not too far off the truth?
