I joined this profession due to a love of the law and a wish to help people who were in difficulties. Oh how I now wish I had become an Estate Agent, earning five times my fee for very little work and not having to be bludgeoned to death by the SRA. People who have a complaint will, in my very long experience, actually complain without being encouraged by me at the outset of representing them and at the end. What confidence does it give any client if I keep inciting them to find a reason to complain about me? so many good lawyers are being left with the feeling that the only option available to them is to retire and to retire fast! As Kerry Underwood, a much respected lawyer, says, we are all in trouble when decent lawyers are hounded out of the profession. The death knell for high street Solicitors has been ringing loudly for some time and this is possibly the final toll.
