I shall not forget speaking to two new members of the SRA staff when the regulator was first established. Both were former local authority civil servants and I asked them what they will be doing. The reply was “We will be making sure that you solicitors aren’t ripping off members of the public”. Not an endearing response. Perhaps we the profession get what we deserve, because the only reason the SRA was established was because the Law Society was so appalling at fulfilling regulatory functions properly.

And the very fact that so many of us feel we have to post here under the “anonymous” heading is a testament to the lack of faith we have.
