Anons 8:32, 9:24, 1:35: How are the statistics you refer to gathered? A (very quick) look allows me to find conviction rates (per court) as a whole, but that isn't very useful by itself. Proving beyond reasonable doubt that someone was using a mobile phone while driving is a much easier job than proving someone strangled someone in a domestic context.

What is the number of defendants where the Mags accept jurisdiction then elict to a jury trial currently? My understanding was this tended to be low anyway - removing this would seem to be much less outrageous if it is barely used.
