@2.10 - it isn't just the statistics, although they are meaningful. There is also a wealth of anecdotal evidence from a wide range of court users. If the number of Defendants electing to face a jury is low, and there is more confidence in juries than there is in mags, then it wouldn't seem worth removing the right to jury trials to cut the backlog. Remember, once this rights are gone they are difficult to get back.
