Sorry, I did say I wouldn't comment again. But I've been in rural Hampshire for a few days and only just seen Mr Tom Appleby's precious bit of propaganda. In case anyone should be fooled by it, let me remind those old enough to remember that Britain was required as part of Edward Heath's EEC entry negotiations to give up its control of its fishing waters. These henceforth became a "common European resource" with the inevitable result that factory fishers from continental Europe drove the smaller-scale British fishing fleets out of business. When Spain (a notorious plunderer of natural resources) joined the EEC in 1986, Parliament tried to stem the tide of destruction by passing the Merchant Shipping Act, which outlawed the practice of foreign fleets registering under the British flag in order to seize even the limited quotas still conceded to Britain (in its own waters). In the Factortame case, this Act of the supposedly still sovereign British parliament was declared unconstitutional by the ECJ. Thus the British fishing industry was destroyed. By the way, although Mr Appleby describes himself as a “fisheries lawyer”, I’ve not been able to find him on “Find a Solicitor”.
