Conveyancers should be telling their clients to register their properties with the HM Land Registry Property Alert services. In fact don't just tell your clients - register your own property too.

It's free - particularly valuable for tenanted and unoccupied properties - HMLR email you if there is significant activity that may result in a change to the register of a property you are monitoring, eg if a new mortgage is taken out against the property.
