Oh for a time machine and the ability to use it to go back twenty years or more. Then, when Rupert Jackson's clerk delivers a fee note in respect of instructions I'd sent to him for defendant professional indemnity work, I could scrutinise it, tell his clerk that his fee was reasonable in amount and the work had been necessarily undertaken but, having regard to the issue and the value of the claim, it was not proportionate and thus I had advised my client - a certain mutual insurer that no longer serves a profession not entirely unknown to many of those who visit this site - that it should pay only half the amount of what usually was a not insignificant fee!
