If I may make an analogy - we read about people not being able to pay their bills and spend the winter freezing due to an inability to afford, say, gas. Why are the government not forcing gas suppliers to function at a loss?

In fact, some people cannot afford food so why are supermarkets not being forced to function at a loss to allow people to eat (rather than using charity/food banks)?

These cuts will result for barristers/solicitors alike functioning at a loss in some respects. I would say that the amount of work a Criminal Lawyer undertakes compared to the remuneration received would show that they are, in fact, working below minimum wage.

I could go on...nurses pay... MP's pay increase...tax breaks for the rich...the system is broken and they are hitting the lawyers to prevent accountability to that broken system.
