I am slightly baffled as to why reporting of problems with criminal defence work (rightly) identifies funding as the main (indeed only) issue. On the other side of the same coin however, criticism of the CPS barely refers to the gross underfunding and instead starts from the assumption all CPS lawyers are at best incompetent and at worst actively seeking to pervert the course of justice by hiding undermining material and the like.
