I was vert taken by the argument that the case was open and shut, so why bother with a trial? This reminded me of the good old days when police sergeants conducted minor prosecutions - as a raw recruit to the ranks of defence solicitors I told one such that my client was innocent, to get the response "if he's innocent, what's he doing in the dock?". If only life could be so certain!
