I closed my practice in 2011 due to the recession, as we were largely commercial and residential property. The commercial market was not a problem, but the residential was.

During my time in practice I employed several "paralegals" who conducted residential conveyancing. All had been trained in house by us, and were very good. They knew what they were doing and knew when to ask for help. It would have been nice if I had been able to support them towards qualification, but the majority were not interested.

I employed a conveyancing solicitor, who caused a negligence claim within 2 months of joining the practice. Not telling a client about coal mining under a property is professional suicide.

Because I was unable to pay my insurance premiums when I closed I am not allowed to practice. I have 20 years of experience in conveyancing, but can no longer use these skills.

I am condemned to never returning to the law and using my hard won skills.

Ah well. Life goes on I suppose
