I was in the audience listening to this debate and what struck me was the sheer arrogance of the insurance industry and Mr Dalton.

Has he ever had a whiplash injury? I doubt it very much. I have - when I first learnt to drive and I haven't forgotten it. I was stationary in my mini at a roundabout when I was hit from behind by a lorry which simply hadn't seen me. I was thrown on to the motorway roundabout and my car was written off. I suffered whiplash and concussion and didn't stop vomiting until a week later. Whiplash is the most under estimated injuries.

With no knowledge of what to do my father contacted the local solicitor who was a tremendous help. The insurers argued about the write off value of the car but my solicitor held firm and negotiated for me. He also found a private physio which helped tremendously and as a student even the cost of prescription charges helped. I was also faced with the ambulance bill which upset me it he sorted that out as well.

As a 19 yr old I was clueless and without my solicitors help I would not have been able to replace my car. So Mr Dalton think twice before you arrogantly shout from your soap box about removing lawyers from the system. Who would keep a check on you then?
