I am not a supporter of Labour or Liberal Democrat but it is difficult not to cringe and wince seeing what is happening to the legal system. I recall the day when I could ask a Court staff to copy papers for the Judge, and they would happily comply without asking for your wallet.

Partner and I recently went to see the Duck House at Vaudeville. I guess little has changed and if anything, different government agencies are trying hard to outdo each other at screwing the public.

I felt so proud when I converted my accountancy qualification and became a full fledge solicitor. At least if I was money grabbing accountant, it was part of my training as an accountant. To me, it defies logic on how the Ministry of Justice considers increasing court fees substantially is going to resolve anything other than curtailing access to justice to the less well off. I take it they need extra money to ensure the pension pot for civil servants is maintained and the status quo continues.

What is going on in the legal sector seems to follow a pattern - the destruction of many solicitors as very few will complain if solicitors are forced to doing hard labour. I became so disappointed with the SRA that recently I had to file a formal complaint and wrote to the new Chief Executive. One has to laugh reading the contents of the reply letters. In essence,' you are right that we had not done our job properly but we were not that wrong. We are now looking at ways to improve our processes and procedures'. Only time will tell.

Law is still my preferred field and I have no quarrel over the hard work, but I wasn't expecting this level of interference and attempts at destruction to the system.
