An alien approach - my a**e!!

Qualifying as a solicitor is the conclusion of 7 years of hard work and the start of a lifetime of hard work. We devote our working lives to doing the best job possible for our clients and by offering them a personal one to one service to assist them through sometimes difficult life events.

We do not do it to make a mega profit for shareholders overnight, we do it in return for a (hopefully) comfortable living, unless one chooses to do crime or legal aid etc, which I imagine is akin to working in the charity sector.

Notwithstanding, the profession is not a road to riches, if indeed it ever was and a large proportion of other non-law jobs such as middle management or the public sector, offer salaries in excess of what a high street solicitor can now hope to earn, even one in a medium sized firm. The salary surveys are evidence of that.

I would now just rather shred my practising certificate than pay for the inevitable SRA intervention into these large ABSs, the moment that they realise there is not enough instant profit and simply close the doors, as purely commercial entities always do.
