1. CQS isn't concerned with quality of legal advice. When this first came in and I was preparing seminars on its requirements I saw with incredulity that there was no mention of any requirement to have any working knowledge of actual land law. I queried this and was told by the CQS office that this was taken for granted as it was assumed that solicitors had complied with their CPD! I just couldn't believe that a Quality scheme dealing with Law could actually leave the Law bit out of the equation. Would the GMC accredit medical specialists on the basis of their financial affairs without checking that they actually know any thing about the relevant part of the body?

2. Why don't we record our telephone conversations? Every financial and service industry does this from Insurance to gas to banks etc. It must be cheaper than all that typing. Give the client a link so they can listen to it again. Why don't we record meetings, again cheaper than all that typing

3. As we move to a commoditised system we need to alter our processes. Its like trying to mass-produce cars and still make them by hand. One step is to have nice desktop published handouts or stuff on the web so we can firstly get a consistent message across which is in a form that will be understood, two - quality control on the fee earners advise, 3 - saves time and therefore money and 4 - covers our backsides to prove that we did tell them so we don't give them the chance to deny that it was their own fault because they decided not to follow advice.
