I must confess to having mixed views about this:

- on the one hand, those bleating about the downfall of the profession resulting from allowing "someone who waved at a judge as they skidded past on roller skates" to become solicitors seem to have no such conviction when recruiting on the cheap

- if the profession were serious about a steep decline in professional substance the solution is a simple one: STOP EMPLOYING THESE PEOPLE, PAY A DECENT WAGE AND EMPLOY ONLY LAW GRADUATE SOLICITORS

- on the other hand if experience matters more than educational background as Charlie Cholmonley Warner asserts then why do we bother to have a legal profession at all since the prevailing view would seem to be that any idiot can do this job! Maybe this "enlightened" view could be shipped out to the NHS, permitting janitors to carry out surgery: after all they must have picked something up from all those years slapping the mop outside the surgery door?
