I have been working in law for approximately 6 years. After completing my degree I took some time out to think about becoming a Solicitor. I enrolled for the LPC but at the last second pulled out for a few reasons, one of which being the issue of finding a training contract in such a competitive market.

I have now chosen to become a Legal Executive. Had this option of experience, as opposed to a training contract, been available at the time I believe that by now I would be a Solicitor. I am in agreement with the few, that it is experience that counts. I work with LPC graduates daily. Many of them have years of experience and from what I have witnessed, are far more deserving of a training contract than those who have been offered one within a year or less of completing their LPC. Many experienced LPC graduates as already stated, in m eyes are better than a number of newly qualified and experienced Solicitors.

Change happens for a reason, to reflect the times and industry. For those that question this route of a training contract by 'experience', please remember that what you went through cannot be compared against what LPC graduates/paralegals currently go through, not without trying it yourself.

As a GCilex this has no baring on me, but I welcome it for colleagues and those who are deserving through their years of hard work and experience.
