Anon at 09.54 immediately above that is a very harsh pronouncement on people in rural communities. it might just be that they didn't choose to live there or are unable to move to lilve somewhere else yet public transport has also been cut to the bone (and the cost is increasing on a regular basis, our bus fares in a suburban zone of a large City have gone up twice in the past year and, like parking meter companies, they are talking about not giving change (so you pay £3.00 for a £2.70 fare and they make 30p). I find the concept of "making" solicitors do pro bono work very worrying. surely that should be a choice. after all Firms are fun as profit making organisations not charities or not for profit. The Partners of Firms have to make a living and why should they be penalised if they happen to make a comfortable living? Anyway the government only knows about huge London City Firms. I would say that Mr Gove ought to try visiting a provisional high street firm for a week then he might see what life at the coalface is really like. Incidentally Leicester County Court is desperately overloaded, as District Judges are retiring they are not being replaced and at the last Court meeting we were told that there is a shortfall of 200 sitting days as against DJ's or DDJ;s available and booked. Surely the government needs to consider thissort of situation when merging or closing courts? I believe that the closure axe will swing purely on financial grounds (too old to maintain or upgrade, too near to a nicer newer one etc) rather than on any assessment whatsoever of need or access to justice
