Use of social media reminds me of the old saw that 'turnover is vanity, profit is sanity', because the number of followers you have really pales in importance to their quality - yet most people focus on the former, not the latter.

This is why Linked-In (staid though it is) is such an effective route to market for those who do their homework.

The other comment I would make is that if you use a really good social media management system like Buffer (which we've integrated into legalrss ) or Hootsuite and a targeting tool such as Autopilot, the time commitment for posting is trivial (nowhere near what is implied above) leaving you to spend more time in engaging in discussions like this which is much more fun!
