There's no point trying to defend the indefensible. None of you appear to be remotely shocked that the costs exceeded the amount of the claims in EVERY category of case valued at up to £50,000,and that even at cases valued at a minimum of £100,000 the costs exceeded the value of the claim in the majority of cases.

These figures are completely absurd and unsustainable. If claims can't be handled at a reasonable cost through the legal system then the compensation process should be removed from lawyers completely, and dealt with by way of an independent assessment panel, much like the CICA.

It's crystal clear that clinical negligence is a highly profitable business, but it's one that is effectively financed out of the public purse. As a taxpayer myself I deeply resent the fact that my taxes are contributing to the very substantial profits being made by clinical negligence forms, and I for one will be very pleased to see this profligacy reined in.
