One of the last jobs I did in practice before retiring was to draft a consent order in a case where the parties (both acting in person) had reached agreement at the FDR. The Judge had recorded heads of agreement and had sent them away to draw up a consent order. I was instructed by the wife to do exactly what the solicitors in this had done, namely to draw up an order that complied with the heads of agreement. The wife made it clear that she didn't want me to advise her as to the merits of the agreement and my retainer letter made this clear. I agreed a fee which she paid in advance.
I drafted the order, e-mailed it to her and to the husband (advising him that he could get separate advice on it). They both thanked me and sent it to the Court some time later. The Order was approved.
I see nothing wrong in what I did, which was to provide a specifically limited service to people who needed it.
