I can't see why this is a problem. The previous small claims limit of £1,000 was unrealistic, and it meant that people seeking compensation had to go through The Portal, an unwieldy and time-consuming process only available to solicitors, and most of the firms doing this kind of work are ambulance chasers at the lower end of the legal evolutionary scale.

A limit of £5,000 means that Litigants in Person can pursue their own claims on the small claims track, and a bit of diligent research will soon reveal the mysteries of torts of negligence, reasonable foreseeability, and authorities to be relied upon. Simples!
