I am a family law solicitor, not PI, but have been acutely aware of problems in this area. My son was driving his family when hit by an elderly man from behind. As soon as the replacement car arrived while his was mended he was HOUNDED on his mobile with people trying to persuade him to bring a whiplash claim. They were very importunate. How did he know he hadn't got whiplash, they could get him MONEY? 'Because I'm a doctor, I am fine.' Very short pause. 'What about your wife.' 'She is fine too.' 'Ahh, but how does she know.' 'Because she is a physiotherapist.' It is clear this area of law has been abused for years and must be reformed. Many people just take a pot at the money. Lawyers have to be above reproach. Our reputation needs attention and costs that are disproportionate to value are ruining our reputation. We must use mediation more to achieve more affordable faster outcomes where possible or we will destroy our market.
