I saw John Hyde tweet a deliberately provocative question, which was something like:

'How would you explain to a client that fixed fees are a bad thing?'

Fixed fees for cases up to £250k are coming, there's no doubt about it. The profession should direct its powers (whatever form they may take) to securing the best possible table of fees rather than arguing against fixed fees because they will have obvious appeal to the public.

We know that once they are fixed, they probably won't increase for at least twenty years - so lets push for having a periodic increase set down in black and white.
