There is widespread dissatisfaction with second rate politicians in a weak parliament but the answer is to get involved in robust, articulate debate. There are numerous ways of doing this without having to join a party. The difficulty with using the law to decide what is in the public interest is that decisions are made only on what lawyers choose to argue in support of their client's views without regard to the wider implications. Bad cases make bad law and everyone has to deal with the unforeseen consequences. I am no fan of politicians but democracy, with all it's flaws, remains the best system for deciding what is best for us.
