It's painfully clear that Elisabeth Davies has absolutely no idea what she's talking about. She is evidently unable to distinguish between a hairdresser's business and that of a solicitor.

She is not fit for purpose and should be sacked.

Sadly, it's more likely that her idiotic mutterings will be acted on, and some absurd regulations will be introduced - I would love to see the price list at one of the Magic Circle firms!

The very worst aspect of this sort of infantile meddling is that it actually encourages fraud and sharp practice. One only has to Google `cheap conveyancing' and see how many firms are cheating to produce the lowest headline quote.

I've obtained several such quotes, and the `add-ons' include such inventive items as `contribution to professional indemnity insurance' of £78, and `file closure charge' of £45.

Forcing firms to sell by price will just mean that the cheats and the lowlife firms will quote stupidly low prices to get the customer (clients having long since vanished) through the door and then start the loading process. Decent, honest firms, who do their best to give reasonable estimates will be driven out of business.

But by then the absurd Ms Davies will have taken early retirement on her gold plated pension will no doubt get a mention in the honours list for services to the destruction of a once proud profession.
