"....The lord chancellor is willing to drop a second proposed cut in fees for criminal legal aid practitioners – depending on the profession’s response to government proposals to slash fees elsewhere. The Law Society has condemned the latest proposed cuts. .."

I find the Law Society's spiral into insignificance fascinating. I suppose most specifically so because they thought that cutting off and distancing this provision of funding for the high Street Practitioner (what was), was clever and necessary and expendable.

What they didn't envisage in 1994 was that putting their eggs in that franchising come hatchet basket (that appeared surmountable as the rest of the 'profession' were happily paying the PC fees), was done without knowledge of the juggernaught of the Legal Services Act that was driving around the corner out of control.

Now as we see from many of the Commercial Firms that are failing, the said venerable intuition as was, is facing a double pincer movement on not only the credence but their long term income.

Interesting times. Will it survive ?
