The idea that Solicitors should fund the Probate Registry fee at the levels proposed is ludicrous. Why should we lend clients money? Anyway, I thought that fees charged by public bodies had to be related to the work involved and the work involved at the Probate Registry is no different for a large estate and a small estate. The current fee is a more than trebling of the £45 fee that used to be charged until a few years ago.

This smacks of desparation. Why don't we just add an extra 1p to income tax and be honest about it all.
