Couldn't agree more, Simon Bath. The trouble is that most deople in the UK want to have the equivalent of a Rolls Royce for the price of Dacia and we have a government that, instead of pointing out that this just isn't feasible, deludes the population into believing that if they bang the table hard enough, they'll get what they want. It's all because the government knows full well that tax rises are the only way to fund the 'rose coloured spectacle' life that people want but that to tell them , let alone implement, this is the quickest way to lose votes. So it continues to peddle its delusions to a population that believes what it wants to hear and closes its eyes to reality. Continue down this road and the ultimate result is inevitable. But the government hangs on grimly hoping that 'something will turn up' before everything goes pear shaped (or, at least, 'pear shape' time doesn't arrive until after May 2020). The Emperor's New Clothes come to mind!
