After decades of seeking gender equality on pay, opportunity, pensions, inheritance, succession et al, to make a case that women should not be imprisoned for the same crime that would imprison a man seems to be a wholly hypocritical position to adopt.
One cannot start picking and choosing which laws one wants to obey and which not without sanction, otherwise the rule of law which is the bed rock of our profession, becomes meaningless.
A populous which is not equal before the law, irrespective of gender, race, religion etc invites discrimination and thus becomes the architect of its own trials, tribulations and vicissitudes let alone undo all the strides that have been made over those decades.
Women are criminal perpetrators too and some from a very young age, barely above the age of criminal responsibility, so let us not pretend that women are victims only.
