Dear My Word, the SRA may be aggressive and unaccountable but their solicitors and counsel are no better. Don't their legal team have an obligation to give good and fair advice? And why are the SDT, as gatekeepers, not assisting? Surely they ought to assess the allegations carefully before certifying there is a case to answer. They just appear to be rubber stamping every case referred to them. Donna Cannon's case below appears to be an example. And you are right: if they award more costs against the SRA, then the system will automatically improve in that the SRA will act proportionately and reasonably when deciding to refer matters to the SDT.
