What will harm London's position as a dispute resolution centre are the delays that have become common, caused by a serious shortage of judicial manpower.

We had a four-day trial at the start of November. We are still waiting for judgement almost six months later. This is despite it being a fast-track case. Meanwhile the defendant is able (in our view) to go on trading in flagrant breach of competition law.

I understand that although an extreme example of delay it is far from isolated.
Unless the government can recruit more judges this sort of thing will continue, and it will bring our court system into disrepute.
