Ian, I sympathise with your situation. As someone who has come out of the other side of something similar, just know you're not alone (sadly) but it will get better and there are understanding managers and employers out there. Don't be afraid to share your experience - you will be surprised at how many people have suffered from mental health problems but feel they have to hide it, such is the stigma ,still.

I look out for my more junior colleagues who are going hell for leather with their hours and I tell them about the dangers of burnout from 1st hand experience (but not in an "in your face" way)because I know what the signs are - it's my way of doing my bit I guess. I agree that a bit of human kindness and compassion are a step forward - it doesn't seem like much but actually it means a lot to the person on the receiving end. Good luck and take care Ian.
