I suspect that Truss was removed for reaching the correct decision on the discount rate rather than her failure to defend the judiciary. The fact that she is replaced by another with a small profile and a quiet voice seems to confirm this PM's attitude to any court who dares to enforce limits on her authority.

With so many qualified lawyers in parliament, it is clear that this PM is actively choosing to avoid a qualified appointment and then going further to minimise the role.

Barring the surprising Gove, it is clear that all non lawyer appointments, from both parties, have been an abject failure. The judiciary should be pressing to reinstate the qualification requirement.
